Mom had surgery on her foot six weeks ago. They put a pin through her second toe to straighten it, because it was so crooked it was overlapping her middle toe and causing lots and lots of problems. The pin held it straight for six weeks.
The pin was removed on Wednesday.
Today, her now pin-free toe has a definite slant to it.
She is NOT pleased.
Our suspicion is that the pin simply wasn't left in long enough. We just don't know if it's going to keep slanting to the side until it's back to where it was before the surgery or not. It is also not clear whether or not this can be fixed quickly.
I have noticed that very time Mom leaves the house and/or kids largely in my care for any length of time longer than an evening, she expressees a rather unsettling degree of shock upon returning that the house did not burn down or fall apart, and no one was maimed or killed or died of starvation. I am not sure whether she has a terrible memory, or just no faith in me whatsoever.
