He has NOT gotten used to the dog. She's been here more than a year and he still hisses and freaks out whenever she gets near him. He actually seems to have gotten worse about it. He's also taken to peeing on the couch. This is what really annoys my mom - he's been to the vet, there's nothing wrong with him, it's behavioral. Which means that odds are, if we get rid of the couch, he's going to move on to other furniture. And since (a) the dog isn't actively destroying furniture* and (b) Mom is more of a dog person, Belle stays, Gato goes.
Mom's asked around, but none of her friends who don't have dogs want a cat.
So, anyone in Houston want a Gato? He's healthy, about three or four years old, neutered, front declawed**, likes to walk over to where you're standing and lay on your feet. Requires some adjustment to new people, but once accustomed to them, can be quite friendly. Is mainly an indoor cat, but insists on going outdoors at night every so often. Does not like dogs, will tolerate children, and I'm not sure how he'd get along with another cat. Is always willing to eat. Always. Might secretly be a pig wearing a fur coat.
If no takers, there is a no-kill shelter. Like I said, he's healthy, pretty friendly, and he's not old. Hopefully they can help find him a home without a dog, where he can be happy and couch-peeing-free. :(
*Okay, except the Really Ugly Ottoman that was designated as hers, where she sits and gnaws on her chew toy with us in the evenings, but that's okay because she's not peeing all over it, and we WANT her to use it.
**At mom's insistance. I know, I know, declawing cats is awful and bad, but I didn't have anything to do with this decision.
