House is full of dog and people. Surprisingly, Berea (the usually super-mellow momma beagle) hates Lacey, my aunt and uncle's very sweet, timid dog. She's bigger than Berea is, but not by much (Lacey is smaller than Belle) and certainly isn't aggressive. But Berea just lost her shit when Lacey came in the house, and every time she sees the poor new dog, she starts yelping like a seal. She doesn't bite her or attack, just... lots and lots of barking. Beagles? Are loud little dogs.
There's no rain outside right now... not much wind, either. Actually, it's been really pretty all day. High 80s, low 90s, a breeze, sunny. This is especially jarring compared to Rita, where we had a week of mind-liquefying heat and humidity with no wind at all. Dead still. That was eerie in and of itself, but this time the uneasiness is because we know what's coming.
Mom's saying we may lose power before we ever see rain, so the plugged-in electronics are turning off and being unplugged and tucked away now. We may be powerless for up to a week, depending on how much damage the storm does. If that's the case, it's likely we'll head somewhere else once the storm is over.
Those of you whose number I have, I'll be sending a text when Ike leaves. If you want me to text you, but I don't have your number, send it to me via LJ.
See you on the other side. :D
