  • Re: The Poll -- Pickles? Seriously? You guys are not right . In the HEADMEATS.
  • Well Played, Grandparents -- My grandparents have been married for 65 years, as of October 5th. For reasons I have long since forgotten, we decided to host their anniversary on November 1st. This has been in the works for MONTHS (because, hell, they've been married longer than most people have been alive), and went off without a problem, which was pretty impressive given the numbers (75-100 people or so = fun times). At one point, my grandfather got down on one knee and proposed again to my grandmother, offering her two rings my mom had made specifically for this -- a diamond solitaire and a replica of my grandmother's original wedding band, which had roses engraved on it. Very pretty. My grandmother was very happy with her new shinies.
  • BRITISH INVASION -- Due to the aforementioned major party, the entirety of my mom's side of the family came to town. Eight of them -- my two cousins who live in England, their spouses, and their two kids each -- have been staying with us for a little over a week. The kids, by the way, are an eight year-old, two six year-olds, and a two year-old. They all have British accents. Two of them also speak some Farsi (their mom is Iranian-British). I have said it before, and I shall say it again: the only thing more precious than a small child with a British accent, is a small child with a British accent speaking Farsi.
  • Boooo -- I did nothing for Halloween, again. Didn't even dress up. Instead, I spent the evening grocery shopping and cooking, because both Mom and I had completely forgotten that I was supposed to make shrimp fried rice for the party the next day. So on one hand, I was up until 2 AM cooking the damn stuff. On the other hand, it was quite popular at the party. So it all worked out in the end.
  • Barack Me, Obamadeus -- OH GOD IT IS ALMOST OVER. I voted early, before the British arrived (as become_a_robot and I correctly reasoned that we would be WAY too busy to do it while they were here). Unfortunately, neither of my eligible siblings voted. Lola had problems with registration (there was an absentee ballot issue before she knew she'd be here in Texas for voting time) and Gabe forgot to register. Dammit, siblings, this is the first election where we outnumber our parents! Sigh. UST is having a grad student party thing at some bar on election night, but I will probably be at home quietly lusting after Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.
